Additional ways to Support Opacum Land Trust:
Employee Matching
Gift Programs
Many large companies will match donations made by employees. Ask your employer
for details. Current matching partners include MassMutual, Karl Storz Endovision
and National Grid.
Gifts of Appreciated Securities
As you contemplate your Annual Appeal Gift to Opacum Land Trust, you might consider
a gift of appreciated securities in lieu of cash. The general appreciation in
stock values may mean that you can make a gift that is particularly tax-advantaged.
Gifts of appreciated securities held for more than one year are eligible for
a charitable income tax deduction for their full market value (we advise that
you check tax laws as they apply to your situation). In addition, if the securities
have appreciated in value since you acquired them, you completely avoid the capital
gains tax you would incur if you sold them. So your actual cost of giving is
less than that of an equivalent gift of cash.
Help us to build our endowment:
Make OLT the beneficiary of your IRA
Did you know that you can designate Opacum as the beneficiary of your IRA? All
of your savings can be used for land protection with no income taxes due! Leave
a legacy that helps to make a difference - designating a beneficiary is revocable
at anytime, there is no cost, it's simple - you can likely do it on-line.
Thank You For Your Generous Support!
Does your business recycle, support green initiatives, make matching gifts to your employees' favorite charities?
That's admirable, and very progressive thinking, but how about making a huge impact right in your own backyard?

Give something different
Some people can be difficult to shop for (like me). Why not give them a gift of membership to their local land trust? A gift membership to Opacum Land Trust does not collect dust, and won't be recycled like a holiday fruitcake! It's the thought that counts, and supporting local conservation efforts is a very thoughtful gift that will count for the entire year.
Gift Membership FormFor the pet in your life- Opacum's new Paws membership
Let your humans know how much you love walks in the woods at Opacum Properties- like Opacum Woods, or the Thompson Preserve!
Put your best paw forward, become a full-fledged canine member of Opacum Land Trust. A paws membership is $30.00, and rewards a dog and his or her human for supporting local conservation efforts. We ALL love a walk in the woods; some of us just can't wag our tails to prove it.
Cats are welcome, too!
Sam Sweet enjoys an early morning canoe ride on Morse Pond, part of the Claire Birtz Wildlife Sanctuary in Southbridge.
We welcome Opacum's newest paws member, Bubba Ojerholm. According to his human, "Bubba loves to ride on his "toon" on Lake Lashaway when not enjoying a walk in the woods. This is a great idea, walks are more fun with a dog!"
