About The Event
When: Sunday May 3, 2026 at 1:00pm
Where: Barker Conservation Area
Turn off Belchertown Road (if coming from the North) or Bridge Street (if coming from South) onto Chudy Street, and then turn left onto Barker Street–then follow it around to the parking area.
Join us at Barker Street Conservation Area, for an opening event followed by a guided walk led by local conservation professionals, including Opacum’s TerraCorps Service Member, Emma. This is a great opportunity to connect with fellow nature enthusiasts, learn about the land’s ecological value, and discover ways to get involved in ongoing stewardship and volunteer efforts.
In 2023, the Town of Palmer was awarded an $84,350 Local Acquisitions for Natural Diversity (LAND) Grant to preserve 13.3 acres of forested land along the Chicopee River. This newly protected area connects with Red Bridge State Park and other town-owned parcels, creating expanded opportunities for conservation and passive recreation. Visitors will enjoy access to approximately 2,500 linear feet of scenic riverbank—perfect for walking, wildlife observation, and enjoying the natural beauty of the region.
Come be part of this exciting milestone and help celebrate the protection of Palmer’s natural heritage!
