The 13th Annual Massachusetts Walking Tour is coming to Opacum Land Trust! The group will be meeting for a free public hike at Stevens Brook Sichol Community Forest on Blodget Rd in Holland at 10 AM on June 22nd.
The Massachusetts Walking Tour is organizing daily public hikes and performing free community concerts through Hampden county from June 21-25 2024, visiting the towns of Holland, Brimfield, Warren, Palmer and Wilbraham. Each day, the musicians will highlight a different greenspace while walking from town to town carrying instruments and camping gear. Concerts are sponsored in part by the Mass Cultural Council and Blackstone Valley Music & Performing Arts Collaborative. For detailed information on daily hikes and performances, please visit 2024 Hikes/Concerts – Massachusetts Walking Tour (masswalkingtour.org)
Each summer since 2010, Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards have organized the Massachusetts Walking Tour where they hike the roads and trails of the Commonwealth, at times more than 100 miles in less than two weeks, in support of the arts in local communities. Each evening they stop over in yet another Massachusetts town, putting on a free concert there, along with local performers and fellow artists who accompany them on their journey. These annual treks raise awareness of the trails and greenways in Massachusetts, including daily public hikes through recreational properties. The Massachusetts Walking Tour has partnered with The National Parks Service, Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC), Freedom’s Way, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Trustees, with primary funding through grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council Program.
